CSA stops the trading of local ad slides

Carlton Screen Advertising is to cease the trading of local advertising slides from the end of this year.

The static and animated slides have long been a traditional feature of a trip to the cinema. They are currently played out before the 30-second spot ads and trailers that directly precede the film.

Mike Neal, CSA's chief executive, said: "Their time has passed. We now have very good cinema 35mm long form ads and slides don't cut it anymore. We are currently reassessing the whole time period before the film starts."

Local businesses will not be given preferential treatment for the spots when the slides stop showing.

Neal commented: "Normal trading conditions will apply for the slots and if local advertisers want to put their content into a 35mm format, then they will be just as eligible as everyone else."

He added: "We have found local advertisers don't use the cinema to advertise as much as they used to. Local internet sites offer a lot more opportunities to these businesses."
