Crispin Porter takes initial steps into UK

Crispin Porter & Bogusky has appointed Charles Faircloth, the JWT board account director on HSBC, to oversee its £50 million Burger King business in the UK.

Faircloth will initially work from Burger King's UK headquarters in Uxbridge, Middlesex, with the brief to recruit new business and potentially set up an independent Crispin Porter & Bogusky office in the UK.

The move follows Burger King's consolidation of its £50 million global ad business into the US agency in December 2005, dealing a blow to the UK incumbent, Delaney Lund Knox Warren & Partners.

After the win, Crispin Porter said it would not open any agencies in Europe to oversee the business, but would recruit planners and account handlers to work from Burger King offices in relevant countries.

DLKW, which held the Burger King account in the UK from 2002, will still handle Burger King's non-advertising activity, including sales promotion.

Burger King spends £11 million on advertising in the UK, its second-biggest market outside the US.

Crispin Porter was unavailable for comment.

Crispin Porter was hired by the fast-food chain in January 2004 and has handled several high-profile drives, including its much-vaunted "Subservient chicken" online work.
