Crimestoppers hopes to convince young people that it offers an anonymous alternative to calling the police about anti-social behaviour.
It will send out a series of collectable cards featuring criminal characters with slang names such as Gun Man, Steamer and Dealer, in the hope that young people will perceive them as relevant to their lives. The cards will include the Crimestoppers phone number and the strapline 'Call anonymously'.
Some of the cards will be distributed in leather wallets featuring the words 'Nick me', and will contain Top Trump-style ratings in areas such as 'Danger value' and 'Intelligence'.
Anonymous direct mailings will also be used, as will legal 'stickering' in the form of flexible magnets, with images of the characters stuck on cars and metal street furniture.
The campaign, created by Quiet Storm, will initially target London in a trial that will run throughout November. If successful, Crimestoppers will consider rolling it out nationally.
