Costello quits SMG as her Out of Home role is axed

Scottish Media Group's Christine Costello has left her position as chief executive of the company's Out of Home division.

Her role has been axed and her responsibilities split between two people. Naren Patel, managing director of Primesight, SMG's poster company, takes up a new role as chief executive of SMG's outdoor division.

Kathryn Jacob, managing director of SMG Access, the cross-media sales division, will take on the additional role of acting chief executive of SMG's cinema arm, taking in sales house Pearl & Dean.

Mike Hope-Milne, who has been covering Jacob's maternity leave, has had his contract extended by at least another three months, while Jacob gets to grips with her new responsibilities.

Jacob's promotion is believed to counter an approach by the Radio Advertising Bureau to install her as its new managing director. RAB chief executive Douglas MacArthur is believed to have interviewed several high-profile radio candidates for the vacant position.

The restructure sees the establishment of the two businesses - outdoor and cinema - as standalone divisions within SMG alongside its TV and radio divisions.
