Tequila was handed the business after a pitch against several unnamed agencies. It is now briefed to relaunch the 11 88 88 service across the UK through an integrated campaign including television, outdoor, direct mail and online advertising.
Euro RSCG London worked on the 11 88 88 business when it launched in March 2003, but was not involved in the pitch. It has not worked on the business since January last year.
Euro RSCG created the Conduit advertising that featured animated superheroes saving people from spending too much money on directory enquiries calls, as well as its latest campaign, which used three characters - "11", "88" and "88" - performing on a music hall stage.
Catherine Hill, Conduit's marketing director, said: "Tequila stood out from the pack because of its breadth and depth of experience and understanding of the marketing requirements for the 11 88 88 brand. The agency's level of service and innovative approach gave us the ability and confidence to appoint it to work on our brand."
Conduit suspended all advertising at the start of 2004 while it tried to negotiate a merger with the rival operator Telegate, which operates the 118 666 service.
The deal did not go through and instead Conduit received financing though a new majority shareholder, ICC Venture Capital.
