LONDON (Brand Republic) – The president and publisher of Conde Nast’s The New Yorker magazine is to leave the company to take up a senior role at Gruner & Jahr USA.
David Carey will take on the role of president and chief executive officer of a newly formed business magazines unit at the Bertelsmann-owned subsidiary. G&J recently bought new-economy business magazine Fast Company.
It hopes to use that as a base to expand its business magazine activities and challenge the dominant US market players, including Fortune and Business Week.
Carey had been publisher of The New Yorker for two years. He took over during a transition period at the venerable New York weekly.
His arrival coincided with the departure of Tina Brown, who went on to found Talk magazine in partnership with Miramax Films.
