Marketing Store's Phil White takes up the post and will work alongside marcoms planning director Sunara Spires and brand strategy director Simon Barbato.
His key responsibility will be to develop the agency's planning process, adding "greater strategic depth and consumer insight".
"Phil's appointment will strengthen our client offer and allow us to deliver even stronger, more measurable integrated solutions to clients across our portfolio," Spires said.
Communique, which produces work across a range of disciplines including direct marketing and advertising, has a client list that includes Diageo, Hoverspeed, Lexus, RBS Insurance and the Learning & Skills Council.
"There are few independent agencies that offer a truly integrated service," White said about his new post. "But at Communique I can be planning a direct marketing campaign and working on a corporate branding and identity brief one week and then pitching for a Pan European advertising account the next."
While he was at Marketing Store, White was also head of planning at its design consultancy Boxer. He worked for clients including Interbrew, McDonald's, Vodafone, Marks & Spencer and MFI.
