The night began with a respectable 7.4 million viewers at 7pm tuning in for the launch programme for the evening, scoring a 34.9% share of the audience.
The Red Nose ratings ramped up quickly as the core viewing period proved to be between 8 and 10pm as 11.3 million, 11.9 million and 12.8 million viewers tuning in for three slots of charity programming.
Both Spider-Plant Man with Peter Kay (8 to 8.30pm) and Little Little Britain with Big Big Impression (8.30 to 9pm) clinched around 48% of the audience.
The biggest winner of the night went to the 9 to 10pm slot, where 12.7 million viewers, a massive 52.2% of the audience, tuned in to watch The Vicar of Dibley and the Comic Relief Does Fame Academy grand final.
The news interruption at 10pm saw the audience dropped to 9.8 million at 10.35pm but maintained a huge audience share of 57.2%.
The Red Nose Day activities still managed to maintain over half the audience share at 11.30pm as 6.3 million viewers tuned in to watch Ab Fab and Blind Date.

Comic Relief scores in ratings triumph
BBC One’s Red Nose Day charity bonanza made a massive dent in the schedules of ITV1 on Friday, as the Vicar of Dibley and Fame Academy helped secured massive ratings for the channel.
