COI gives Investors in People brief to WTCS

The Department of Trade and Industry has appointed Walsh Trott Chick Smith and Unity to help it encourage small businesses to participate in its Investors in People employment scheme.

WTCS overcame competition from HHCL & Partners, following a pitch process that also originally included the fellow COI Communications roster agency Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy. The win, worth 拢1.5 million, builds on WTCS's relationship with COI after its appointment as standby agency last year.

Unity will handle all media planning for the account.

The DTI is looking to get more small- to medium-sized companies to participate in the scheme, which has traditionally only proved popular with large businesses. The campaign will inform entrepreneurs about the 拢30 million subsidy announced by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Gordon Brown, in last year's budget, which is available to small start-up businesses.

It is thought that TV will be overlooked in favour of more business-to-business friendly mediums, such as press, radio and the internet.

The Investors in People initiative, run in conjunction with the National Learning and Skills Council, is designed to enhance the profitability of UK companies. It is one of several briefs to be issued by the DTI within the past 12 months. Others include the National Minimum Wage and Business Link.
