Taschen America is republishing American author Norman Mailer's 1970s book about the first Moon landing in 1969, 'Of a Fire on the Moon', as a limited edition coffee table book, called 'Moonfire'. It will include not just the copy from Mailer's original book, but also additional photographs sourced from Nasa, Life and private collections.
The publisher has come up with not just one marketing wheeze, but two.
First, it has printed only 1,969 copies. The first 1,957 are for sale online at a price of $1,000 (£609) per copy.
The other 12 copies will be offered with slices of lunar meteorites which have landed on Earth, which is expected to drive their price far higher.
Taschen is compiling a waiting list of readers as it waits for professional valuations of the meteorite samples it possesses.
Creed Poulson, the public relations manager at Taschen America, told The Times: "[The price] will be thousands, hundreds of thousands, of dollars. Kind of like a diamond."
