Coca-Cola and Pepsi lose out to rise of fruit-based drinks

ombined sales of Coca-Cola and Pepsi look set to drop below 50% market share in the next five years, as UK consumers drink more fruit-based and energy soft drinks than ever before.

LONDON (Brand Republic) 鈥 Combined sales of Coca-Cola and Pepsi look set to drop below 50% market share in the next five years, as UK consumers drink more fruit-based and energy soft drinks than ever before.

Cola鈥檚 share of the UK soft drinks market has fallen from 55% to 51% in the past four years, as more consumers buy fruit brands as well as 鈥渟moothies鈥 and herbal drinks.

Industry experts agree that Coke and Pepsi should meet changing tastes head-on, introducing more flavoured drinks to their own portfolios.

Coke recently pulled out of talks to buy the US energy drink Gatorade, along with its parent company Quaker Oats.
