CNN boosts primetime programming out of Europe

LONDON – CNN is boosting its evening news and business primetime output from Europe to further meet its audience's needs while providing an even stronger platform for advertisers.

From March 1 CNN's evening line-up of 'World News Europe' and 'World Business Today', which threads business with breaking and general news, will be enhanced by the launch of a new edition of 'Business International'.

Anchored live from London by one of CNN's star anchors Becky Anderson, the show is an hour-long look at the day's events and a look-ahead to the next, including a wrap of the main stories as the New York Stock Exchange closes.

Rena Golden, senior vice-president CNN International, said: "This new programming is about defining our positioning, building upon the very strong relationship we have with our viewers and providing a strong platform for our advertisers."

The new look 'Business International' extends CNN's reach into the later evening to catch those European viewers who turn to CNN at the very end of their day. The show, airing from 10pm-11pm, is designed to expand CNN's London-based evening output to three-and-a-half hours of live programming.

CNN also hopes the extended evening programming will complement the newly branded three-hour morning block out of London, 'CNN Today', co-anchored by the popular morning team of Richard Quest and Hala Gorani.

At the same time CNN is also expanding its sports coverage with an additional live half-hour of 'World Sport' scheduled as part of Europe's primetime line-up at 9.30pm Tuesday through Friday.

In addition CNN has said it is to stream its 24-hour news channel live to mobile phones with the launch of a new wireless service. It claims the launch is a world first and will initially launch on Mobilkom in Austria where subscribers will be able to watch CNN International live on their mobile devices. The service goes live in March.
