Clooney returns as the face of Martini for new campaign

LONDON - Oscar-winning actor George Clooney is set to feature in a new ad for Martini that sees the Hollywood star swapping his luxury boat and a beautiful woman for the Bacardi cocktail drink, following a Spaghetti Western-style stand off.

The "beach" spot, created by New York agency Momentum, follows Clooney as he tries to start the engine of his luxury boat, while his lady friend looks on unimpressed.

A handsome man in a motorised fishing boat comes to the rescue with extra fuel, as Clooney looks down to the "empty" fuel gauge and realises what the problem is.

Clooney offers money for the fuel, but the man points over to the Martini and the men become embroiled in a Sergio Leone-esque stare off.

The 'Syriana' and 'Good Night and Good Luck' star is next seen on a beach with only his Martini for company, while his boat speeds past with the man and woman waving goodbye.

The ad ends with Clooney sipping Martini and saying: "Aaah, the simple pleasures in life". It was directed by Michael Haussman through production company The Mill New York.

Creative team Alonso Davila and Ty Baker from Momentum collaborated with Fergus McCall, Mill NY senior colourist, on the colour for the spot, which takes on a unique hand-painted look.

The spot also calls to mind a Mediterranean escape, which McCall portrays in the bronzed skin tones and clear blue water.

Clooney, who has featured in previous Martini ads, as well as Fiat and Toyota, was recently involved in a slanging match with 'Gladiator' actor Russell Crowe over commercial endorsements.
