He replaces Xavier Chardon, who has been appointed managing director for France. A new UK managing director is yet to be announced.
Duchemin, who became UK MD in 2005, will oversee the development of the Citroen brand across global markets, plus the forthcoming launch of the new DS range. Prior to his UK position, Duchemin was managing director of Citroen Austria.
The French car marque recently re-branded to improve its appeal to style-conscious drivers. The updated visual identity, by branding agency Landor, revised Citroen's red and white colour scheme and chevron logo for a more curved, fluid appearance. Citroën also introduced a new strapline, ‘Creative technologie'.
