The new ad has been funded by the Federation Against Copyright Theft and was sponsored by DHL. It breaks in cinemas on December 12 and will run at the beginning of ad reels on a regular basis until August next year.
The spot was created by the production company , written and directed by Adrian Hillard. It shows a man in a blacksmith's forge with one of his irons in the fire -- an X shape. The voiceover warns that the funds from pirate videos go towards terrorism, as well as destroying the film and video industry.
The blacksmith then plunges the iron into water, and when it has cooled it is transformed into the C, representing copyright and incorporated into the FACT logo. It turns people towards a website, .
It also warns people that it is forbidden to make recordings in the cinema.
A similar campaign has been used on most of the UK videos that are rented or sold for home use. Hillard said: "The hope is that the pirates will be driven off the streets and the internet by enlisting the support of members of the public who feel strongly about this issue."
