CIA is beefing up its sponsorship arm - MVi Total Sponsorship - by
expanding across Europe, recruiting up to 20 staff and appointing a
managing director.
Andy Westlake, a director at the two-year-old division - which is
dropping the MVi prefix - has been handed the MD role.
Total Sponsorship handles sports marketing, and broadcast and digital
sponsorship for clients such as Powerleague, Schwarzkopf, DHL, and - the
latest to come on board - Norwich Union.
Westlake will oversee the opening of divisions in Milan, Dusseldorf and
Paris in the near future. Total Sponsorship will share offices with CIA
and team up with the agency on global projects such as the 2002 World
Cup.
Westlake started out in media as a sales assistant at Capital Radio,
later joining Emap On Air to manage the sponsorship and promotions
division. He joined Total Sponsorship in 1998.
He will sit on a newly-formed board consisting of director of sport
Jeremy Clark, chief officer of CIA MediaLab Mel Varley, CIA chief
operating officer Dominic Grainger, and the broadcast and sports
marketing consultant Alex Fynn.
David Stubley, who was previously MD of Total Sponsorship and runs CIA's
sister digital marketing agency Outrider, will chair the board.
Stubley said Total Sponsorship will grow organically by acquiring "like
minded agencies". CIA-owner Tempus has 97 offices in 29 countries
throughout Europe, Africa, Asia Pacific and the US. "CIA regards
investment in the sponsorship sector as a priority and this expansion
plan will enable us to accelerate our offer to clients," added Stubley.
