Chiquita appoints O&M to £35m pan-European business

LONDON - Banana producer and supplier Chiquita Brands International has appointed Ogilvy Group UK to its estimated £35m pan-European ad business.

Ogilvy triumphed in a four-way pitch against Saatchi & Saatchi, TBWA\London and Fallon overseen by Agency Assessments International. The account will be managed from London.

Ogilvy & Mather, Ogilvy Interactive and Ogilvy Group's activation company Dialogue created an integrated communications plan that will promote Chiquita's fresh fruit business, which includes fruits other than bananas, and its fresh convenience division, which makes a range of processed products.

Malcolm Poynton, O&M executive creative director, said the network had come up with some "distinctive work".

"Chiquita made it very clear that creative excellence was top of its agenda in calling this pitch and it's very gratifying to win the business on that basis against some top-flight competition. Chiquita is a brand that lends itself to some distinctive work, and we believe that's what we've come up with," he said.

Patrick Wauters, vice-president of marketing Europe for Chiquita Brands International, said: "We saw excellent presentations from all the shortlisted agencies, but Ogilvy's performance was outstanding throughout the pitch process, and we look forward to a long and productive relationship with its talented team."

Chiquita is headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio.
