Chevrolet picks agency for European Aveo task

General Motors has handed StrawberryFrog the account for the launch of its Chevrolet Aveo across Europe.

The Amsterdam agency won the brief after a two-way pitch, understood to be against Leo Burnett Germany. StrawberryFrog won its first piece of GM business in July, when it was handed the Vauxhall Agila account.

The Aveo, a sporty hatchback, was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show last month and will be available from spring 2008. It is slated as a major launch for GM, which is thought to be investing 拢30m on promotional work for the car to support its European roll-out.

StrawberryFrog's brief is to produce an integrated campaign that will run across all European territories, including the UK.

The Aveo will feature the 'bow tie' badge, that has been part of the brand since its inception, more prominently than on previous models.

GM's Chevrolet marque has a strong heritage in the US, but a relatively low profile in the UK, having made its debut in 2005, with the rebranding of the Daewoo marque, which it had acquired in 2002.

Other car marques owned by GM include Saab, Cadillac, and Hummer. It has cut its global adspend as it struggles in a sluggish market, with TNS media reporting a 25% fall in 2006 to 拢2.29bn (拢1.12bn).
