Thompson joined Channel 4 in March, and he is expected to use the platform to outline his strategy for the broadcaster, which is in its 20th year.
Thompson is also expected to give his opinion on UK broadcasting as a whole.
He follows in the footsteps of BBC director general Greg Dyke and Rupert Murdoch, chairman of BSkyB owner News Corporation, who have also spoken at the event.
Thompson said: "This year, Channel 4 is 20 and so is the independent [broadcasting] sector. We have big plans for the future and I can't think of a better platform from which to share this with the industry than the MacTaggart Lecture."
