Channel 4 set to scoop deal with Sainsbury's Oliver

LONDON – Channel 4 is set to beat off rival broadcasters to sign a £1m deal with Jamie Oliver, the TV chef and face of Sainsbury's supermarkets.

Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky have all been fighting to sign the young chef since he parted company with the BBC.

Oliver and the BBC ended their relationship last month having failed to reach an agreement over a new TV series, with the chef's lucrative advertising deal with Sainsbury's the main sticking point.

The BBC was adamant that the supermarket not be promoted in any way through the 'Naked Chef' programmes. Oliver has just signed a new deal with Sainsbury's for a series of new advertisements.
