Channel 4 is to be the first terrestrial broadcaster in the UK to

transmit a masthead programme when it broadcasts a TV version of the

style magazine, Dazed & Confused, this autumn.

The show, called Renegade.TV Gets Dazed, will form the first in a series

of Renegade.TV, which explores unconventional modern lifestyles, and

will tap into the essential elements of Dazed & Confused.

The programme has been devised and formatted by the co-publishers of the

magazine, Jefferson Hack and Rankin, who have commissioned a number of

directors to create a range of ideas.

The two-hour show will be broadcast on 17 September, and will range in

content from documentaries to spoof advertising. Bjork, Jake and Dinos

Chapman and Irvine Welsh will all participate, and there will be video

profiles of celebrities such as Sophie Dahl and Ewen Bremner.

The idea behind the initiative is to hijack Channel 4, Hack and Rankin

said. ’We want to liberate the boredom of TV, its repetitiveness, its

familiarity and reliance on established formats.’

Jacquie Lawrence, the commissioning editor for Independent Film and

Video at Channel 4, said: ’Renegade.TV Gets Dazed aims to create

something that’s exhilarating, vital and original.’

On the same night as Renegade.TV Gets Dazed, Channel 4 will broadcast

Crack.TV, another masthead programme made by Christine Aldersen of Ipso

Facto, the company launched by the magazine, The Crack.
