Chambers, 34, has worked at five since November 2001. Among his commissioning credits are: Britain's Finest ...; World War One in Colour; Battlefield Detectives, and the Revealed history strand. Chambers was also responsible for luring the entire former Top Gear production team and presenters from the BBC and on to the channel in the new Fifth Gear format.
Chambers joined from Channel 4 where he was the science editor and was responsible for commissioning series such as Secrets of The Dead, Scrapheap Challenge and The Private Lives of the Pharaohs.
Jeff Ford, currently the director of acquisitions, has been made managing editor to support Chambers. He will be responsible for running the programming department's finances and will deputise for Chambers as well as retaining his current responsibilities for acquisitions.
Lygo quit five in July to join Channel 4, where be became the director of television. He replaced Tim Gardam who left after five years at the broadcaster. This move forced five's chief executive, Jane Lighting, into the spotlight as she was forced to take on Lygo's role while she searched for a successor.
