Celebrity Big Brother garners 2.4 million in wake of dramatic ejection

Channel 5 took nearly double-digit share of viewing in the 9pm slot last night after an eventful weekend in the Celebrity Big Brother house, according to unofficial overnight figures.

After the fairytale-themed series opened with more than three million viewers on Thursday night, things became more serious than the broadcaster wished for on Friday night when one of the housemates, former Baywatch star Jeremy Jackson, was accused of inappropriately touching model Chloe Goodman in an off-camera incident.

The series continued in a more familiar dramatic vein on Sunday night as the remaining housemates clashed with newspaper columnist Katie Hopkins reducing celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton to tears.

While Saturday night's show managed 2 million viewers after it was delayed by an hour til 10pm, Sunday night's show was watched by 2.4 million viewers, 9.6 per cent of the audience, beating Channel 4 and BBC Two.

Channel 4's Walking the Nile documentary, which opened last week, managed 1.7 million viewers and a 7 per cent share.

The 9pm-10pm slot was won by BBC One, which attracted 5.7 million viewers for Last Tango in Halifax.

ITV1's 8pm-10pm screening of Foyle's War was seen by 4.3 million viewers while BBC Two brought up the terrestrial rear with 1.2 million viewers for Kate Humble: Into the Volcano.
