Carlton and Granada confirm ITV management line-up

LONDON - The senior management line-up of a merged ITV, and the appointment of six new non-executive directors, has been confirmed with three out of the top four positions going to Granada men Mick Desmond, Simon Shaps and Graham Parrott, writes Claire Billings.

The network is to be run by Carlton chairman Michael Green and Granada chief executive Charles Allen as chairman and chief executive respectively, while Henry Staunton, yet another Granada man, will become finance director.

Desmond, chief executive of Granada Broadcasting & Enterprises and current joint managing director of ITV with Clive Jones, becomes chief executive of ITV broadcasting and enterprises. Carlton TV chief executive Jones takes on the role of chief executive of news.

Yesterday, 北京赛车pk10 reported that Graham Duff, the chief executive of Granada Enterprises, has emerged as frontrunner to lead ITV's sales team following the government's approval of a Carlton and Granada merger. His rival Martin Bowley has pocketed healthy bonuses during his reign at Carlton Sales, and is not believed to want the job.

Granada Media commercial director and company secretary Parrott becomes commercial director of the merged company, and Shaps, chief executive of Granada content, becomes chief executive of Granada Production.

Carlton company secretary and general counsel David Abdoo becomes company secretary of the merged group.

The senior management will be joined on the board by six new non-executive directors, who will oversee the merger, including two senior independent directors, former Lloyds TSB chief executive Sir Brian Pitman and former ITC chairman Sir George Russell.

The rest of the board members are: David Chance, a former deputy managing director of BSkyB; James Crosby, who oversaw the merger of Halifax and Bank of Scotland as chief executive; Boots chairman John McGrath; and former president of Walt Disney International Europe, Etienne de Villiers.

The company has until November 7 to work with the Office of Fair Trading to address a number of concerns it has about the merger, including finding an adjudicator to ensure the company's merged sales houses comply with conditions put in place to stop it acting anti-competitively.
