Every week the Careers page profiles a company running a job
advertisement in this issue of Marketing. If you can identify the
company, fax your answer and details to 0171 413 4504. One correct
answer will be picked by our random selector to win a bottle of
champagne.
This week’s mystery company is one of the leading names when it comes to
taking time off and still carries the name of its founder who set it up
in 1841 in Leicester.
It now makes pre-tax profits of pounds 45m and has 1300 representatives
in over 100 counties.
It spent almost pounds 7.5m on advertising in 1997 but is looking for a
new marketing director for its retail division after Dido Harding was
put in charge of its electronic distribution channels. Its ad agency is
BDDP GGT, with media handled by Booth Lockett Makin.
The sector in which it operates was the subject of an investigation by
the Monopolies & Merger Commission, which was resolved in December last
year.
