Other media companies to make it into the Sunday Times' "100 Best Companies to Work for 2003" survey include Grey Global media-buying agency MediaCom, which came in at number 30. MediaCom scored particularly highly on the Leadership and Team sectors, coming 10th with 85% of employees revealing a strong faith in the head of the company as well as confidence in the senior management team as a whole.
The media agencies outstripped the advertising agencies as places to work. The highest ad agency was TBWA\ at number 58, followed by Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO at number 80. Also in the list was COI Communications, the government's publicity agency, at number 65.
The list is compiled by surveying employees of companies, asking 65 questions about leadership, personal growth and other work issues. Companies' employment policies are also taken into account. The number one company in the Sunday Times list was Microsoft.
Carat said that it did not enter the survey purely to pat itself on the back.
Mark Craze, group chief executive of Carat, said: "Many new recruits started at Carat after seeing the list from last year. The survey is confirmation that we are heading in the right direction."
