Carat managing director Mills leaves after seven years

LONDON - Colin Mills, managing director of Carat, is leaving the agency after seven years at the helm with no other job to go to.

Mills is expected to leave his post this Friday. Commercial director Neil Jones will replace him as acting managing director until a permanent replacement is found.

Mills took over from Mark Craze as managing director in 1999 when Craze was promoted to chief executive of the Aegis-owned group.

Prior to joining the main agency in 1998, Mills was media director for Carat-owned Eurospace from 1994. He also held positions at Hoare Wilkins, BMP Business and TMD, where he began his career as a media trainee in 1986 before it was taken over by Carat three years later.

*Nigel Sharrocks, chief executive of Aegis Media UK & Ireland, said:

"Colin has done a great job particularly over the past 6 years as managing director and while his enormous energy and commitment will be missed, he leaves behind an outstanding management team and a business in great shape".

Mills added: "I feel it's time to move on to an exciting new challenge. My immediate intention is to take a short sabbatical whilst I consider my options both inside and outside the advertising business."*
