Capital Radio is restructuring its business to put branding and
content at the centre of its operations.
Having announced profit warnings and declining advertising revenues in
recent months, Capital is creating a new structure that will contain
four brands. The major development is the creation of its Contemporary
Hit Radio Network, which will act as the umbrella brand for Capital's
eight FM stations.
The other three brands will be The Century Network, The Xfm Network and
The Capital Gold Network.
Capital hopes that the creation of CHR will provide greater sharing of
content and strategy between the FM brands as it examines the
possibility of creating a single consumer brand. Andria Vidler, the
managing director for Capital London, will take the role of managing
director for CHR. Adrian Jones, the managing director of Capital South,
will assume the title of regional managing director for CHR.
David Andrews, the managing director of Century in Manchester and a
former marketing director at Capital's Birmingham station BRMB, is
taking on the new role of marketing director for the CHR Network, with
responsibility for all marketing for brands, including Capital 95.8 and
Beat 106.
The Century Network has named Julie Fair, the managing director of
Capital North, as its managing director.
Capital will also recruit a programming and content director to work
with the managing directors and programming directors of each network.
Its online activities will also be reorganised.
