Capital Radio hires Metro's Linda Grant as marketing chief

Capital Radio has appointed Metro's marketing director, Linda

Grant, as its new strategic marketing director.

Grant, who joined Metro in late 2000, will oversee all elements of

strategic marketing for Capital covering media strategy, research and

brand strategy.

Replacing Nikki Mendonca, who left recently to join OMD Europe as its

marketing director, she will be responsible for working closely with

advertisers and agencies to build awareness of Capital's offer.

During her time at Metro, Grant was promoted from head of planning to

marketing director. Her background was in newspaper sales as the

advertising manager on the Daily Record and Sunday Mail and, before

that, in business development at Newsquest.

Grant will work across Capital's 19 stations to create stronger brands,

nationally and in London, among advertisers and clients.

Reporting to Linda Smith, the managing director of Capital Radio

Advertising, Grant will join in April. Despite her lack of radio

experience, Grant's initial role at Metro, which involved honing its

sales approach to agencies, will provide valuable experience. At Capital

she will oversee attempts to increase the group's revenue in the light

of profits which fell by 27 per cent last year.
