Bennett has been tasked with driving commercial opportunities and revenues beyond airtime advertising and across new platforms and digital technologies.
Bennett, who starts his new role next week, has worked for the Capital Radio Group for 10 years with the last three as director of national sales, which accounts for some 70% of the company's revenues.
He will build on existing projects such as Capital's joint venture with Virgin EMI Records, which has led to the launch a number of branded CDs including 'Capital Gold Legends', which sold more than 1.7m copies; 95.8 Capital FM's 'Party in the Park' CDs; and Xfm's 'X-list' CD, which is currently at number nine in the compilation chart.
Linda Smith, commercial director at Capital, said: "Capital has an enviable portfolio of brands and a growing number of distribution platforms. Our aim is to make these even more attractive to our customers -- trade and listeners. Chris's role will be ensure that this happens."
Bennett will also focus on content exploitation and licensing, events and digital technology, which has already resulted in a joint venture with Disney and the creation of a digital radio brand aimed at children -– Capital Disney.
"This is an important step for the Capital Group. The new role is to fulfil our ambition to leverage the strength of the Capital brands across the UK," Bennett said.
