The station will target what it calls the "under-served" audience of under-16s. The station will broadcast on Capital's Cube digital network and will also use mobile phones and the internet. The companies claim it has a potential audience of about 25m people.
With 92% of 10- to 16-year-olds tuning into the radio each week, Capital and Disney say they believe this age group will be a "major force in driving the take-up of digital radio in the UK".
No details about the kind of programming Capital Disney will broadcast have yet been released, except that the companies promise it will be "innovative and compelling content". The companies are submitting an application for the East Midlands analogue radio licence, as they build the network.
Disney said it plans to use its film, video, television and theme parks to cross-promote Capital Disney, which will launch within the next few months.
