Heart FM, owned by Chrysalis Group, saw its share of the London radio audience fall by 1.1 percentage points to 5.4%, while Chrysalis' other network, LBC 97.3, was down by 0.8 points to 2%. Chrysalis said that the Rajar figures were "disappointing", but that it did not tally with internal research showing that both stations gained in share and reach.
BBC Radio 2, the biggest station in the country, saw its national audience share slip by 0.1 points to 16.1%, while Radio 1 was up by 0.3 points to 8.6% with a rise on the breakfast show for Chris Moyles.
At Radio 4, the audience share was also up by 0.3 points, to 11.3%, while classical music station Radio 3 was steady with a 1.1% share of the audience. Classical music rival on commercial airwaves, Classic FM, part of the GWR Group, saw its national share fall from 4.5% to 4.2%.
There was bad news for TalkSPORT, owned by Kelvin MacKenzie's Wireless Group, which saw audience share decline by 0.1 points to 1.7% period on period. However, it remained up year-on-year in terms of share and reach.
To make matters worse for MacKenzie, BBC sports rival Five Live was up 0.4 points to 4.9%.
It was not all bad news for the commercial networks, with 95.8 Capital FM seeing its share of the London radio audience increase from 6.6% last quarter to 7.2% this quarter.
Capital's key breakfast show slot, hosted by Johnny Vaughan, saw a decline in listeners, but the company said that at the same time its share of the female audience leap from 9.4% to 24.5%. Vaughan's breakfast show remains the number one commercial show in London.
David Mansfield, Capital Radio's chief executive, said: "As anticipated, some listeners have tried other stations at breakfast; however, the station as a whole has seen growth across the rest of the day. Johnny Vaughan is proving to be a significant radio talent and we confidently predict he will win new listeners and build audiences over the next two years."
Xfm, the alternative music station owned by Capital, saw a fall in audience of 0.1 points to 1.6%, but its recently acquired urban music station Choice FM saw a rise of 1.1 points to 3.2%.
Rajar's quarterly summary of radio listening shows that the entire BBC radio network grew its audience share to 54.4% for the quarter, compared with 53.1% last quarter, and 51.8% during the same period in 2003. In London, BBC London 94.9 fell by 0.1 points to 2%.
