- Allied Domecq in the US has awarded its $10 million Canadian Club account to Publicis & Hal Riney of San Francisco.
The brand, which has traditionally been associated with highly creative advertising, has given the agency a brief to resurrect that tradition. David Waluk, vice president, group marketing director for Allied Domecq, said: "Canadian Club has provided leadership in the U.S. distilled spirits industry for more than 140 years. Publicis & Hal Riney will be charged with translating the brand's enduring values, reflecting our uncompromising commitment to quality to a new generation of consumers. The agency's portfolio of outstanding creative work demonstrates its ability to capture a brand's essence and define it in a relevant and compelling fashion with consumers."
Ron Ossip, Canadian Club's vice president, international marketing director, added: "I'm excited about the capabilities that Hal Riney now has through the Publicis organization to expand U.S. creative to international markets."
The agency will begin work immediately and a new campaign is expected to debut in the second quarter of 1999.
Canadian Club was founded in 1858 by Hiram Walker and was the first Canadian whisky to be marketed world-wide.
