LONDON - An American group of Christians has launched an anti-war advertising campaign in British newspapers asking Tony Blair to find a 'third way' between war and inaction.

The full-page ads appear in the Daily Telegraph, the Financial Times, The Independent and The Guardian today, laying out a six-point plan for disarming Saddam Hussein without going to war with Iraq.

The ads have been placed by a group of US Christian missionaries called the Sojourners, and sponsored by Business Leaders for Sensible Priorities. The ads direct readers to the and also feature a US telephone number where more information can be obtained.

The pages of The Guardian, the favoured title of left-leaning readers in the UK, are groaning with full-page anti-war ads. As well as the Sojourners' execution, there is an open letter to all MPs from a group called .

There is also a full-page ad headlined "Manifesto for Peace and Progress", signed by prominent left-wing figures such as Vanessa Redgrave, the singer Jane Birkin, and the playwright Harold Pinter. It says readers can add their names to the manifesto at the .
