Laurence Dunmore has joined RSA Films from Great Guns, in a move
that further reinforces RSA’s restructure after the high-profile
departure of its former managing director, Jo Godman (±±¾©Èü³µpk10, 29
November 1996).
It is Dunmore’s first position as a full-time commercials director since
he closed his design company, Laurence Dunmore Design, in the autumn of
1997.
Dunmore directed several acclaimed spots during his two years at Great
Guns, including ’car wash’ for Peugeot 306, ’breakfast view’ for Alpen
and ’loch’ for Ford Escort. He was also the winner of the Commercials
Direction ’Creative Future’ accolade at the 1997 Creative Futures
show.
Adrian Harrison, managing director of RSA, said: ’He has been on our
hit-list of directors for about a year now, as each piece of work he has
done has shown development. His style is constantly moving forward.’
Dunmore was also ’spotted’ by Ridley Scott, the founder of RSA. ’Ridley
told me that he’d seen an Alpen ad on air,’ Harrison said, ’and thought
it was an excellent example of a director really doing something with a
relatively OK script. To catch Ridley’s astute eye is a good
recommendation.’
Dunmore said: ’To have RSA behind me, with its strong production
back-up, means that I can more realistically realise the kind of jobs
that I want to do.’
Dunmore began directing while running his design company, when a German
band, for whom he had designed an album sleeve, asked him to direct
their promo.
