LONDON (Brand Republic) – Camelot, the current operator of the National Lottery, wants to persuade its regulator to include a European game in its bid for the next licence.
Camelot wants the Lottery Commission to agree to the European game on the grounds it will raise more money for good causes.
The Commission said previously that Sir Richard Branson’s People’s Lottery bid was more generous for good causes, but this did not take into account the amount raised from the European-wide game Camelot planned to roll out for the last two years of the next seven-year licence period.
Camelot’s revised bid is due in by midnight on Tuesday and comes after the incumbent operator successfully took the Commission to the High Court after it entered into exclusive talks with the People’s Lottery following the initial submission of both bids in June.
The Commission maintains the improved bid may only focus on its concerns about Camelot’s links with G-Tech, and said it was not permitted to change other aspects of the bid. Sir Richard was also told to address concerns only about a possible shortfall of funds by providing a £50m back-up guarantee.
