Calvin Klein ads to reflect new mood in US

NEW YORK - Calvin Klein is the latest advertiser to adapt to the world post-September 11, with a new campaign for its Eternity fragrance featuring the song, What the World Needs Now is Love.

The £24m global campaign features supermodel Christy Turlington, the long-time face of Eternity, singing the Burt Bacharach song against a backdrop of moments in a child's life, including scenes from a birthday party. Another execution features Turlington singing the song to a man.

The campaign will be followed with print advertising in March, featuring the strapline "Love, sweet love". The ads were created by CRK Advertising, Klein Cosmetic's New York-based in-house agency. Renowned fashion photographer Jurgen Teller shot the photographs and directed the commercials.

Eternity was launched in 1988 and became immediately successful. The ads have starred Christy Turlington since the beginning, but this is the first time the creatives behind the ads have turned to music. As well as Turlington singing, the ads will be backed with a fragment of the song as sung by Aimee Mann.
