C4 warns of drop in profits

Channel 4 has warned that its profits for 2006 will fall by as much as two thirds, due to a fall in net advertising revenue (NAR) from TV.

In an informal trading statement, the group said it was budgeting for a further fall in NAR since it expected profits for January to December last year to be down two-thirds from last year’s record £66.8 million.
The group, which includes Channel 4, E4, More4 and Film4, has nevertheless increased its audience share by 10% to a record 12.1%, and its share of NAR by more than 1% to almost 24% of total TV revenue.
In contrast to a fall in TV advertising revenue overall, Channel 4 Group said its digital channels increased income by more than 80% from about £60 million in 2005.
The combined effect was to leave the group’s ad revenues essentially flat.
