C4 set to launch music channel

LONDON - Channel 4 is expected to launch a 4Music-branded TV channel, to replace The Hits music channel, at V Festival in August.

C4 set to launch music channel

4Music will be one of the main sponsors of V Festival 2008, which takes place on 16 and 17 August in Hylands Park, Chelmsford, and Weston Park, Staffordshire. Channel 4 is believed to be planning to use the event to market the 4Music rebrand.

Channel 4 currently uses 4Music to cover various music programming elements including festivals, online music, The Nokia Green Room and music interviews and gigs on its weekend youth strand T4.

The broadcaster has already trialled a branded 4Music Sundays slot on The Hits, covering the Shockwaves Album Chart Show, among other shows.

The launch is one of Channel 4's first major moves since it bought a 50% stake in Bauer predecessor Emap's Box TV music business for £28m last July.
