C4 to give CBB phone vote profits to charity

Channel 4 has bowed to pressure to donate all profits from phone votes on tonight's edition of Celebrity Big Brother to charity, a day after The Carphone Warehouse ended its sponsorship of the show.

After a week of controversy over accusations of racist comments on the show, the broadcaster is expecting a big audience tonight, with viewers choosing between two of the housemates at the centre of the row - Jade Goody and Shilpa Shetty - for eviction.
Proceeds from the phone vote will go to a charity to be nominated by contestants.
The Carphone Warehouse yesterday pulled its name and branding from the show, ending its £3m a year sponsorship after more than three years, claiming that the row over racist comments was at odds with its brand values.
Channel 4 replaced the idents with clips from the Big Brother diary room.
