C4 and Five eclipse ITV movie premiere

LONDON - ITV's terrestrial premiere of Oscar-winning movie 'Ray' was trounced last night by Channel 4 and Five, according to the unofficial overnight viewing figures.

Despite garnering critical praise and featuring an Oscar winning turn from lead actor Jamie Foxx, 'Ray' was watched by just 2.7m viewers and took a 12.5% share of audience in a slot starting at 9pm and finishing after midnight, with a break for the news at 10pm.

In the same 9pm slot, the second episode of 'Gordon Ramsay's F Word' on Channel 4 maintained the momentum of its strong debut last week, with 3.4m viewers and a 15.2% share of audience.

The last series of the restaurant-themed show averaged around 3.8m viewers and Channel 4 is on course to hit that benchmark once again as the audience builds throughout the run.

The current series has been showered with praise by TV critics following changes to the programme's format including a competition to find the best team of cooks.

'Ray' was also beaten by Five's audience banker, 'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation', which drew 3.5m viewers and a 15.4% share of audience in its 9pm slot.

A second outing for the US import also attracted a big audience, with 'CSI: Miami' attracting 2.2m viewers and an 11.6% share of audience in its 10pm slot.

It was a strong evening for Channel 4 as the channel also scored a ratings hit earlier in the evening with its cult self-improvement show, 'How to Look Good Naked'.

Last night's episode, which went out at 8pm, pulled in 3.1m viewers and a 14.3% share of audience. It featured presenter Gok Wan helping a 28-year-old mum to improve her confidence following the birth of her baby.
