C4 and BBC secure racing rights

LONDON - Channel 4 and BBC have secured the rights to broadcast live horseracing for three years.

Racecourse Media Group (RMG), Northern Racing, Arena, Ascot and Ripon have agreed to a partnership, which will guarantee around 80 days a year of terrestrial coverage of horseracing on C4 and a further 13 on BBC. 

Channel 4's The Morning Line will continue every Saturday followed by afternoon racing, plus midweek highlights including, Cheltenham Festival, Glorious Goodwood, Chester, York and Newmarket.

Channel 4 will show major jumps meetings from Ascot, Haydock Park and Uttoxeter. It will continue to run its own dedicated racing website.

The BBC deal includes John Smith's Grand National meeting from Aintree, Investec Derby meeting from Epsom, the Royal Ascot, Betfair King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes meet from Ascot, Queen Elizabeth II Stakes meeting from Ascot and Coral Welsh Grand National from Chepstow.

With the deal the racecourses hope to introduce a new generation to racing.
