Burger King shifts £11m ads from Lowe to DLKW

Burger King has handed Delaney Lund Knox Warren (DLKW) its £11m UK advertising account with a brief to improve its fortunes in Europe.

The business moves out of Lowe after five years. Rumours about Lowe's hold on the account first surfaced last year when the fast-food giant approached a handful of ad agencies (Marketing, August 1, 2001). It is understood that DLKW was among them and has since maintained a relationship with Burger King's top marketer Philip Almond. Lowe's parent network Interpublic, which now handles all Burger King's US advertising and media business, also owns a minority stake in DLKW.

Burger King parent Diageo is in the final stages of a £1.5bn auction of the chain, which reported a 29% drop in operating profit to £79m in its interim results in February with comparable restaurant sales in Europe down by 2%.
