Burda buys Love It! from News International

LONDON - News International has sold its real-life weekly Love It! to Hubert Burda Media for an undisclosed sum.

Love It! will continue to be published from News Magazines' offices in Chelsea until January, when staff will transfer to Hubert Burda Media's Holborn office.

The sale of the title comes three years after News International launched News Magazines in an effort to expand into the magazine sector.

However, News International has opted to close the division after it sustained a £10m loss in the 12 months to June 2007.

The decision to close News Magazines was one of the key outcomes of a review of News International by Boston Consultancy Group, instigated by James Murdoch, chief executive of News Corporation Europe & Asia.

News International opted to transfer Skymag over to BSkyB in August, with the satellite pay-TV group taking on Skymag staff.

Hubert Burda Media's UK operation publishes a range of titles including real-life weekly title Full House!, Period House and Health & Fitness.

Luke Patten, chief executive of Hubert Burda Media, said: "We are delighted with the acquisition of Love It!. News Magazines created a leading title within the sector with a distinctive appeal to readers. It fits very well with our other titles and is well placed to grow further."

Love it! recorded an ABC figure of 372,247 in the period January 1 to June 30 2008.
