Budgen strikes gold for Levi's 'twist' ad at D&AD's 40th awards

LONDON - The Bartle Bogle Hegarty 'twist' film for Levi's, directed by Gorgeous's Frank Budgen, stole the show at the 40th D&AD Awards.

It took a gold in the best direction category on Wednesday night as well as two silvers for special effects and best ad.

Budgen also won two silver awards for Lowe's "sofa" ad for Reebok and Wieden & Kennedy USA's "tag" spot for Nike. Partizan's Michel Gondry won a gold for his 'Star Guitar' video for The Chemical Brothers.

Lowe also picked up a silver award for cinematography for Stella Artois "doctor", shot by Jan Velicky. W&K's Nike work took four Pencils in total. TBWA\London won two silver Pencils for its "wolfman" ads for PlayStation 2.

Saatchi & Saatchi won two silver Pencils for its Club 18-30 work, as did Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO for The Economist and Guinness.

The director Paul Weiland, who has won 10 Pencils over his career, walked away with the D&AD President's Award for his outstanding contribution to film direction.
