BT has signed a deal with Endemol to license and create content and interactive programming for its new broadband television service.
It joins BBC, Paramount, National Geographic, HIT Entertainment, Nelvana and Warner Music Group as content providers already signed up for BT's TV over broadband. The service launches in the autumn and gives customers access to on-demand film, music and television, as well as communications services through their television sets.
According to a report in the Observer, Endemol, which also makes 'Deal or No Deal' and 'Ready Steady Cook', may take a cut of the revenues generated by the programmes.
Endemol is already embracing the digital age, with chief executive Peter Bazalgette last year unveiling two content streams for mobiles: one of comedy clips and the other called Extreme Reality Channel.
Peter Cowley, director of digital media at Endemol UK, said: "This deal with BT underlines our commitment to remaining at the forefront of digital media and developing new ways of entertaining people."
Separately, BT is expected to roll out the first European mobile television service, offering access to at least five television stations as well as radio channels, the Financial Times reports today.
The telecoms giant is to offer the service with its partners Virgin Mobile and Microsoft. Last month it unveiled results of a pilot mobile TV service, revealing that consumers would pay as much as £8 a month to receive live television through their mobiles.
