BSkyB signs video game deal

LONDON - BSkyB has signed a deal with a video games publisher that will see digital TV subscribers get access to new games before they are released on any other format.

Subscribers already have access to a games service through Sky Digital, but the deal with Rage Software, a UK-based computer games publisher and developer, is the first of its kind between a games publisher and digital TV provider.

Sky Digital's 5.3m subscribers will have access to a new game called Denki Blocks! before it is available in any other format. Rage will receive a share of revenues generated through the game, which will be available on a pay-to-play basis.

Rage Software is based in Liverpool and was formed in January 1992 by managing director Paul Finnegan. Other games it publishes include David Beckham Soccer and Eurofighter Typhoon.
