BSkyB reshuffles senior executive team

LONDON - BSkyB has appointed three senior executives, including Dawn Airey, to take over the duties of chief operating officer to help the satellite group hit its 10m subscriber target by 2010.

Airey, who has been managing director of Sky Networks since 2003, has been appointed managing director of channels and services, assuming additional responsibility for Sky's joint ventures and third-party operations to build commercial relationships at the group.

In addition, she is responsible for Sky's multi-platform strategy. The existing Sky Networks structure, headed by Airey, will be joined in the channels and services group by an enlarged interactive group combining all of Sky's new media content, including online mobile and interactive platforms.

Jon Florsheim, who joined Sky in 1994, becomes managing director of the newly created customer group, in addition to his existing title of chief marketing officer. The customer group brings together Sky's sales and marketing services with its customer operations, which includes call centres and installation expertise.

This team will lead the continued development of Sky's product strategy, including the launch of the broadband offering in the second half of 2006.

Mike Darcey, group strategy director, has been bumped up to the role of group commercial and strategy director and will be adding developing commercial relationships to his key responsibilities.

The reshuffle will be overseen by outgoing chief operating officer Richard Freudenstein, up until August 2006 when he leaves Sky to return to his native Australia. Freudenstein, responsible for launching Sky's 19 mobile channels, has not being tipped for any specific role in Australia.

James Murdoch, Sky chief executive, said: "Sky is positioning itself for further growth after passing its customer milestone of 8m homes at the end of 2005. With these changes we will work together more effectively to create greater value for customers."

Sky is now aiming to reach 10m subscribers by 2010, with 25% penetration of Sky+ and 30% multi-room penetration.
