BSkyB and BT win Premiership rights deal

In a joint bid with BT, BSkyB has secured the near-live rights to screen 242 football games per season from the Barclays Premiership.

The companies submitted a combined bid of 拢84.3m for the three-year deal, which covers the 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.
It enables BSkyB to offer full delayed coverage or extended highlights of all Barclays Premiership matches not broadcast live.
BT plans to offer the matches on BT Vision, the television service it plans to launch in the autumn.
The deal follows BSkyB鈥檚 win of four packages of live rights for FA Premier League matches, covering 92 games in the 2007-08 and 2009-10 seasons, which will be shown live on Sky Sports.
"We can now promise Football First until the end of the decade and new ways of watching games, on demand, through broadband,鈥 said Vic Wakeling, managing director of Sky Sports. 鈥淥ur recent live deal brings more live Premiership matches to Sky Sports with the best games and biggest head-to-heads.鈥
