Britvic sized up for PepsiCo takeover

US cola giant PepsiCo could be gearing up for a takeover of Bass’s Britvic soft drinks business.

LONDON (Brand Republic) – US cola giant PepsiCo could be gearing up for a takeover of Bass’s Britvic soft drinks business.

PepsiCo already owns 10% of Britvic, which owns the Tango and Robinson’s brands as well as making and distributing Pepsi in the UK.

Bass chairman Sir Ian Prosser hinted at the group’s half-year results in May that he would sell Britvic once Bass’s brewing arm had been disposed of. Bass Brewing, which manufactures the Carling brand, was bought by Belgian beer giant Interbrew for £2.3bn last month.

Others said to be interested in buying Brivic include AG Barr, the maker of Irn Bru.
